Despite squandering a 2-0 lead against Viking, the Blues added 0.125 points to the national coefficient, and Hajduk and Rijeka could bring a new boost on Thursday.
In the first match of the Champions League playoff round, Dinamo drew 2-2 with Norway's Viking at Maksimir. Although they led 2-0, the Zagreb side squandered their advantage, leaving them with a tough task in Norway and a bitter taste in their mouths. However, even with that draw, Dinamo helped Croatia's coefficient.
A draw in qualifying is worth half a point in total, and when divided by the four clubs that started the qualifiers, it yields 0.125 points for the national coefficient. This summer, Croatia has thus added a total of 3.125 points to its national coefficient, and thanks to Dinamo's result, it has climbed to eighth place on the seasonal rankings.
Ahead of Croatia are only the giants Spain, Portugal, Germany, Italy, England, and the Netherlands, but also surprisingly strong Latvia with 3.250 points. However, Latvia has only one more club in Europe, while Croatia has three. According to a post by Twitter user Football Meets Data on August 18, 2026, Croatia has risen to 8th place in the seasonal rankings.
With these 0.125 points, Croatia's five-year coefficient now stands at 25.281, still 21st in Europe. However, it has begun to significantly close the gap on those ahead, as Austria and Scotland are at 25.550, and Sweden is not far behind with 25.750. Yet, overtaking the first two will be tough because the Austrians and Scots still have all 5/5 clubs in Europe, while the Swedes are in danger with 1/4.
Successes for Hajduk and Rijeka on Thursday would work wonders for the national coefficient. With a bit of luck, Croatia could enter the Top 20, but the crucial 15th place and higher positions in Europe are still far off, as Cyprus is there with 33.568. In a night of three draws, Bulgaria once again overtook Slovakia for 28th place, according to Football Meets Data.
