Two matches against Norwegian champions Viking separate Dinamo from the Champions League. The first leg is played tomorrow, August 18, at 9 PM at Maksimir, with the return leg next Wednesday in Stavanger. Beyond the great sporting achievement and prestige, entering Europe's elite would also bring the Croatian champions a huge financial windfall.
Minimum Earnings Rise to €30 Million
Detailed calculations were published by the platform Football Meets Data, which used Celtic as an example, a club with a very similar coefficient to Dinamo. If Dinamo enters the Champions League, the minimum earnings would be €18.62 million, but this does not include additional potential revenues such as the market pool or bonuses based on the five-year and ten-year coefficients.
Celtic has a five-year coefficient of 41,000, while Dinamo's stands at 40,500, which is only slightly lower. In the comparison of ten-year coefficients, Dinamo is significantly better with 90,500 compared to Celtic's 74,000, but that advantage could shrink because Celtic comes from a more marketable region.
How Much Wins and Placements Pay
Depending on the results of other clubs in the qualifiers, Celtic, without winning a single point, would earn between €29.49 million and €32.05 million, which can also be projected onto Dinamo. For each win in the Champions League, a club receives €2.1 million, and for a draw €750,000. If a club finishes in the top eight in the league phase, it gets an additional €2 million, and for positions 9 to 16, an extra €1 million is awarded.
Reaching the round of 16 brings €11 million, and the quarter-finals an additional €12.5 million. So, Dinamo is looking at a minimum of €30 million in the Champions League, and with seven or eight points earned, that figure could approach €35 million.
What If Dinamo Is Eliminated in the Play-Offs
If eliminated in the play-offs, Dinamo will receive €4.29 million for entering the Europa League, which is already guaranteed. The minimum amount that can be earned is around €15 million, depending on the results of other clubs.
Maksimir Fills Up, Donation for Fire Victims
GNK Dinamo announced on Sunday, August 16, that the North Lower, West Lower, and West Upper stands are sold out. Only the North Upper stand remains on sale, at €12 for members and €17 for other fans. The club also announced that part of the match revenue will be donated to help those affected by the wildfires in the hardest-hit areas of Croatia.
Ahead of the match, Dinamo also marked the 40th anniversary of the Bad Blue Boys fan group. Former footballer and Dinamo fan Zvone Boban sent an emotional congratulation: "To you, without whom nothing is the same - for 40 years it hasn't been the same! To you, who never stopped loving and living the blue - not for a single second of life, not for a single second of any match. To you, because of whom we have the Dinamo we've dreamed of for years. In tradition, in rebellion - always your own, forever Dinamo's! Happy Birthday Purgeri! Happy Birthday BBB group! Dinamo Zagreb above all, Dinamo Zagreb above everyone!"
