The Football Association of Karlovac County has formed leagues for the new season with eight first-division and 14 second-division teams, while former national team player Mile Škorić continues his career at Sloga from Novi Mikanovci.
The Football Association of Karlovac County has finalized the league compositions for the upcoming season after Dobra from Sveti Petar withdrew from the 1st County League at the last minute, reports Kaportal. The vacancy has been filled by NK Korana from Turanj, which has unfrozen its status and returned to the top county tier.
According to initial plans, Dobra was supposed to play in the 1st County League after winning the title in the second division. However, the withdrawal came too late for any of the clubs behind them in the standings to meet all the requirements to fill the league. The solution was found in the return of Korana, which had previously frozen its first-division status and now, with a new pitch, has the right to continue competing in that tier.
The First County League will thus continue to feature eight clubs. Instead of Croatia 78 from Žakanje (which moved to the 4th NL Center A) and Vrlovka from Kamanje (relegated to the 2nd County League), the new-old members are Ogulin, which was relegated from a higher tier, and returnee Korana. The Second County League will have 14 teams, with Vrlovka becoming its new member.
The championship for both leagues begins on August 30, 2026. In the first round of the 1st County League, the matchups are: Zrinski Ozalj, Korana, Ogulin, Vatrogasac, Barilović, Duga Resa 1929, and Slunj, Dobra (Novigrad). In the 2nd County League, the fixtures are: Tuškani, Josipdol, Kupa, Cetingrad, Dobra (Sveti Petar), Plaški, Krnjak, Oštarije, Draganić, Mrežnica, Mladost Rečica, Vrlovka, and Frankopan, Petrova gora.
Meanwhile, former Croatian international Mile Škorić (35) has found a new club after announcing the end of his professional career at the end of July. As reported by Telegram.hr, Škorić has become a player for Sloga from Novi Mikanovci, a club competing in the Second County League, which is the sixth tier of Croatian football.
In doing so, Škorić fulfilled a promise to club president Damir Sušec and friend Milan Mravunac that he would end his career at his home club, where he took his first football steps. During his rich professional career, he was the backbone and captain of Osijek for years, and also played for Rijeka, Gorica, HAŠK, Cibalia, and Chinese clubs Mighty Lions and Jinmen Tiger. With Rijeka, he won the league and cup titles.
He played seven matches for the Croatian national team. He made his debut in May 2017 against Mexico, and former coach Zlatko Dalić included him in the squad for Euro 2021. At that tournament, he watched the matches against England in the group stage and Spain in the knockout phase from the bench, without entering the game. His last appearance in the Vatreni jersey was in the spring of 2022 against Bulgaria. He particularly remembers the match against Portugal at Poljud, where he successfully stopped Cristiano Ronaldo.
