The Serbian tennis player spoke to Catalan outlet Sport about the 2028 Olympics and family priorities.
Novak Djokovic (39), the greatest tennis player of all time, revealed in an interview with Catalan outlet Sport that he could play the final match of his professional career at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. In Paris in 2024, the Serbian tennis player won Olympic gold, which he called the pinnacle of his career, completing a trophy collection that includes a record 24 Grand Slam titles and 40 Masters titles.
When asked whether competing in Los Angeles is still a goal or more of a dream, Djokovic replied: "I think it's both. A dream and a goal, but also a desire. I've said many times over the past few years that I would love to make it to the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 2028. I think I can achieve that. We'll see. It will depend on how my body responds and many other circumstances."
He also added a clear intention: "I want to end my career in LA with the Serbian flag on my shoulders."
Djokovic explained that his schedule is already significantly different from the majority of his career. "Today, I don't play or compete in as many tournaments, nowhere near as many as I have over the past twenty years. And I've chosen to do that because I also want to spend more time with my family and truly dedicate myself to the different roles I have in life, as a husband, father, son, or brother, while developing other things that interest me."
Despite the reduced number of tournaments, tennis remains at the center of his professional life. "Of course, tennis is still at the center of my professional life, but I also want to find a balance, and that's why I've changed my calendar. However, I still hope to make it to the next Olympic Games and end my career with the Serbian flag on my shoulders."
