Real drama unfolded on Tuesday in Podstrana, where a passenger vehicle veered off the road and came to a stop right at the edge of a cliff. As the car precariously 'teetered,' the driver was still inside, with mere centimeters separating him from potential catastrophe. Thanks to the swift intervention of firefighters from Podstrana, the entire incident fortunately ended without any injuries.
From the Public Fire Brigade (JVP) of the Podstrana Municipality, they described the rescue operation in detail for Slobodna Dalmacija. "We received a report of a vehicle that had veered off the road and was in danger of falling into a ravine, with the driver still inside. We responded with 2 vehicles and 4 firefighters," they stated.
Upon arriving at the scene, they encountered a dramatic sight. "The vehicle had gone off the road with its rear section, and the chassis had come to rest on the edge of the roadway. The vehicle was 'teetering,' posing a risk of further movement and a fall," they explained from the brigade. They further emphasized that the rear of the car was literally hanging in the air, and the rocking threatened to send the vehicle plummeting at any moment. The intervention, as they noted, went off without any additional complications.
The firefighters first stabilized the car to prevent any further movement. Only after the vehicle was secured did they proceed to extract the driver. "Initially, we secured the vehicle and safely removed the driver, then proceeded to recover the vehicle itself. After securing and extracting, the vehicle was successfully returned to the roadway," they concluded from the JVP of the Podstrana Municipality. They also presented the public with photos from the scene, which testify to the dramatic nature of the situation and the precision of the rescue operation.
Thanks to the composure and quick reaction of the local firefighters, the incident passed without serious consequences, and the driver escaped with only a scare.
