On August 11, 2026, officers from the Dubrovnik Traffic Police Station carried out an intensified traffic control on roads in Zaton and Čibača, using a drone. As reported by Metković.net, the focus of the control was on detecting and sanctioning traffic violations that pose a significant threat to the safety of all road users.
During this operation, a total of 65 traffic violations were recorded. The largest number, 43, related to not wearing a seatbelt. Additionally, 9 cases of illegal overtaking, 7 cases of using a mobile phone while driving, 4 cases of parking in prohibited areas, and 2 cases of riding without a protective helmet were identified.
Drones represent a modern technical tool that enables the police to conduct more effective aerial traffic surveillance, especially on congested road sections, intersections, and locations where direct observation of traffic violations is difficult. These devices allow for the rapid detection of dangerous driver behaviors, such as illegal overtaking, driving without a seatbelt, using a mobile phone while driving, as well as other violations that can lead to traffic accidents.
All violators were subject to measures prescribed by law, in accordance with the provisions of the Road Traffic Safety Act.
The Dubrovnik Traffic Police Station will continue to carry out such targeted activities at other traffic-endangered locations within its jurisdiction. The use of drones is part of the continuous improvement of traffic control methods, which aids in more efficient violation detection and preventive work.
The purpose of these activities is not only to penalize violations but primarily to protect against injuries, raise the level of traffic safety, reduce the number of accidents and their consequences, and encourage all participants to behave responsibly and conscientiously.
