Dubrovnik Under Red Weather Alert: Nighttime Temperature Hits 31.8 Degrees

The Dubrovnik area entered August under a red weather alert, with residents enduring an exceptionally warm night during which the air temperature barely dropped, as reported by Dulist, citing data from the State Hydrometeorological Institute (DHMZ).

According to official measurements, at midnight Dubrovnik recorded 29.7 degrees Celsius. By 1 a.m., the temperature had risen to 30.8, peaking at 2 a.m. with 31.8 degrees. The morning brought no significant cooling, with temperatures still at a high 31.3 degrees at 8 a.m.

Body Deprived of Nighttime Rest

Such weather conditions put additional strain on the body, as the usual nighttime cooling after daytime heat fails to occur. With forecasts indicating a continuation of extremely high temperatures, the City of Dubrovnik has issued an appeal to residents to exercise extra caution and reminded them of the recommendations from the Civil Protection Directorate.

Residents are advised to avoid direct sun exposure during the hottest part of the day, especially between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Additionally, they are urged to drink plenty of water regularly, wear light and breathable clothing, and protect their head and skin from the sun's rays.

Precautionary Measures and Protection of the Most Vulnerable

Recommendations also include cooling indoor spaces, ventilating during the night and early morning hours, and avoiding strenuous physical activity during peak heat. People working outdoors should take more frequent breaks in the shade and stay hydrated.

Special emphasis is placed on the safety of children, the elderly, and pets. The Dubrovnik city administration warns that children and animals must not be left in parked cars, even for short periods, as the interior temperature can quickly become life-threatening.

The red weather alert for the Dubrovnik region remains active, and according to the forecast, another extremely hot day is expected.
