Two fires were recorded yesterday in the Virovitica-Podravina Police Department area. In Mačkovac, a fire broke out in an open area, while another engulfed an old outbuilding in Kladare during the night.

Barbecue, Ashes, and Nighttime Ignition

The fire in Kladare was preceded by a barbecue. SiB reported that a 43-year-old man grilled in the yard of a family home in the afternoon, then dumped the remaining ashes and embers at the back of the yard, where waste, dry grass, and rubbish were piled.

During the night, the waste caught fire, and the flames then spread to the wooden structure of the old outbuilding, extending to part of the roof, which burned. Firefighters arrived at the scene, brought the fire under control, and fully extinguished it.

No one was endangered by the fire, and material damage was not assessed as it involved an old, dilapidated structure slated for demolition.

Branch Burning in Mačkovac

On the same day at around 2 p.m., a fire also broke out in an open area in Mačkovac, where a 66-year-old man was burning dry branches on his own agricultural land. Due to the wind, the fire spread uncontrollably, burning approximately 2.5 hectares of low vegetation and grass. There were no injuries, and firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze.

The 66-year-old will be reported to the competent civil protection inspection for a misdemeanor.

Police Warn Citizens
