Police in Umag stopped a 47-year-old man on a county road in Brtonigla, and the check revealed he had no driver's license and that the car's insurance policy and registration had expired.
Police officers from Umag once again caught a 47-year-old man behind the wheel without a driver's license. He was stopped on August 18, 2026, at around 10:20 AM on county road ŽC-5070 in Brtonigla, where he was driving a car with Pula license plates.
The check revealed that the man was driving a B-category vehicle before obtaining the right to drive, i.e., without a driver's license. Additionally, the car's insurance policy and registration had expired.
Due to previous reports for the same offense and two final convictions, the police met the legal conditions for seizing the vehicle. The car was temporarily seized, and the driver was arrested.
A misdemeanor charge was filed against the 47-year-old with the competent court for violations of the Road Traffic Safety Act. The court will decide on the sanction in regular proceedings.
The Istrian Police announced on August 19, 2026, that they had requested the permanent seizure of the vehicle from the court. This is an example of stricter action against repeat offenders of the most serious traffic violations, as the 47-year-old has already been finally convicted twice for the same offense.
The final decision on whether the vehicle will be permanently seized will be made by the competent court in regular proceedings.
