The Croatian actress recounted how she narrowly escaped a fire during the war years, and this year she fulfilled her vow to Our Lady of Sinj by running 34 kilometers.
The Assumption of Mary is not just an ordinary holiday for Ecija Ojdanić. The actress shared on Instagram a story from the war years that, as she says, has stayed with her forever and led her to make a vow to Our Lady of Sinj.
It all happened in Split, during the time of power cuts. On the eve of the Assumption, Ojdanić wanted to read before bed, but she didn't have a battery, so she opted for the simplest solution. "The smart one lights a candle and reads," she recalled.
The night then took a completely different turn. "The next scene, I wake up in flames," she wrote. The fire caught the mattress, the pillow she was lying on, the book, and part of the bed, but she came through without a single injury.
"Nothing happened to me, not a hair on my head, not an eyelash caught fire," Ojdanić described what she sees as a kind of miracle. "Since then, every year we pay for a Mass to Our Lady of Sinj, sometimes my mom, sometimes me," she added.
This year, she decided to fulfill her vow in a particularly demanding way. Instead of a Mass, she set off on a journey under her own power and ran 34 kilometers from Kljake to Sinj.
"A beautiful spiritual journey, never harder, never more beautiful," she said alongside a video of her feat. The footage ends with an emotional scene of her arrival and welcome by her closest ones, rounding off another observance of the vow she has carried for decades.
