Timberwolves star confident new additions will shift the balance against the two teams that eliminated them from the playoffs.
Anthony Edwards, the Minnesota Timberwolves' best player, has sent a clear message to his team's two biggest rivals. During a visit to Manila, in an interview with ESPN, he stated that he believes his team will finally overcome the Oklahoma City Thunder and the San Antonio Spurs in the new season.
Those two clubs have given Minnesota serious headaches in recent playoffs, eliminating Edwards and his teammates in consecutive seasons. Now, with new additions to the roster, Edwards does not hide his optimism.
The key news for the team is the arrival of LaMelo Ball, a former first overall pick and one of the league's most exciting guards. Ball will share the backcourt with Edwards, and their partnership could be one of the most intriguing storylines of the upcoming season. Alongside Ball, Josh Green has also joined the team.
"Against those two teams, I think we're going to win," Edwards said without a hint of hesitation.
Despite high ambitions, the Timberwolves star does not want his teammates to think about a championship ring too early. He is aware that it takes time for all the pieces to come together.
"It would mean a lot to win a championship, but right now I don't think we're thinking about winning a championship. We're taking it step by step. We brought in LaMelo Ball, a new player, as well as a few other new players," Edwards said during the team's stay in France, where they worked with the new additions.
He also added what is currently most important for the Minneapolis team: "We're just trying to build everything together, and I think we're trying to get everyone to fit in."
Edwards enters the new season after another impressive individual year. In 61 games played, he averaged 28.8 points, five rebounds, and 3.7 assists. Now his goal is clear: with new teammates, take a step forward when the most important part of the season arrives-the playoffs.
