Today, August 4, 2026, Croatia marks the 31st anniversary of the military-police operation 'Storm,' Victory and Homeland Thanksgiving Day, and Croatian Defenders Day. On this occasion, an official music video for the new patriotic song 'Victors, Writing History' was released from Budimiri, serving as a lasting reminder of the sacrifice and courage of those who created a free Croatia.
The song is dedicated to all Croatian defenders who stood up to defend their homeland during the Homeland War. The lyrics were written by poet Dinko Barać, while the music and editing are credited to Jure Ivančević from the Gospa od Ružarija Budimiri association. Through powerful verses and compelling music, the song emphasizes the importance of preserving the truth about the Homeland War and passing on the values of patriotism to younger generations.
"We invite all lovers of patriotic music to watch the music video, share it with their friends, and in that way pay tribute to Croatian defenders and all Croatian heroes," said the song's authors, Dinko Barać and Jure Ivančević, for Narod.hr.
The authors emphasize that the song was born out of a desire to be a lasting sign of respect for all those who wove their lives into the freedom of the Croatian homeland and to inspire love for God, the homeland, and the Croatian people.
On the same day, the 31st anniversary of Operation 'Storm' was solemnly observed in Karlovac. The program, organized by Karlovac veterans' associations and associations stemming from the Homeland War in the Karlovac County area, began at the Croatian Defenders Square. There, representatives of associations, families of fallen and missing defenders, and citizens laid a joint wreath, lit candles, and paid their respects with a prayer.
The observance continued at Turnj, a symbol of Karlovac's defense, where candles were lit again at the monument bearing the names of fallen defenders. This act paid tribute to the heroes who defended the Karlovac area. It was emphasized how crucial it is to preserve the truth about the Homeland War and to forever remember all fallen and deceased Croatian defenders.
The ceremony was attended by Karlovac County Prefect Martina Furdek Hajdin and the Mayor of Karlovac, Damir Mandić, along with their associates, who also paid their respects to the sacrifice made for Croatia's freedom.
