According to the report by the City Office for Economy, Environmental Sustainability, and Strategic Planning, workers in the extraction of crude oil and natural gas earned an average of 2,598 euros net per month.

At the opposite end of the scale is the manufacture of clothing, where the average net salary was 1,019 euros. The gap between the best and worst-paid sectors in the capital thus exceeds 1,500 euros.

Zagreb's Average Still Above the National Figure

The average monthly net salary paid per employee in legal entities in the City of Zagreb for May was 1,758 euros. Compared to April, this is a decrease of 1.3 percent, but on an annual basis, compared to May 2025, salaries rose by 6.4 percent. The City Statistical Office also released data confirming these trends.

The median net salary, which more accurately reflects the actual distribution of earnings, reached 1,500 euros in May. This means that half of employed Zagreb residents earned less than this amount, while the other half earned more.

When comparing Zagreb's average to the national one, the difference remains significant. The average monthly net salary for the whole of Croatia for the same month was 1,552 euros, meaning that Zagreb residents earned an average of 206 euros more.

Gross Earnings See Monthly Decline but Annual Growth

As for the total cost of labor, the average monthly gross salary in Zagreb's legal entities for May was 2,528 euros. Here too, a monthly decline was recorded, of 1.9 percent compared to April 2026. However, the annual trend remains positive, with a growth of seven percent compared to May 2025.
