One of the largest water utility projects in Slavonia has received the green light for EU funding. The total value of the project to build water utility infrastructure for the Slavonski Brod, Brodski Stupnik, Garčin, and Donji Andrijevci agglomeration is €150.28 million, with the EU providing €83.25 million in grants, as reported by Narodno.hr on August 19, 2026.
The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Green Transition has issued the funding decision under the Competitiveness and Cohesion Programme 2021-2027. Eligible project costs are estimated at €120.23 million.
Major Undertakings in Water Supply and Sewage Systems
The scope of the work is extensive, covering both water supply and sewage systems. Plans include the construction of 33.34 km of new water supply pipelines, along with the reconstruction of an additional 14.68 km of existing network. The project also entails the construction or reconstruction of 3,234 household connections, two new pumping stations, and 18 SCADA control nodes.
An even larger undertaking is planned for the sewage network. The project includes the construction of 100.79 km of gravity sewers and 38.68 km of pressure pipelines, 25 new pumping stations, the reconstruction of 18 existing ones, four storm overflows, and one metering and control manhole.
Additionally, 8,059 household connections to the public sewage system will be built, and 22 existing pumping stations will be linked to the SCADA system.
Tangible Benefits for Tens of Thousands of People
The tangible benefits for the local population are measured in tens of thousands. An additional 7,837 residents are expected to gain access to the public water supply, while 20,836 will gain access to the public sewage system.
This project is not just about new pipes and connections. The goal is to ensure a more reliable supply of drinking water, better wastewater treatment, and reduced pollution of watercourses and groundwater. For Slavonski Brod and the surrounding municipalities, once the work is completed, this infrastructure project will directly impact the daily lives of thousands of households.
