The Faropis literary festival marks its jubilee 20th edition this year, and the organizers have decided to dedicate it to the recently deceased Tahir Mujičić. This Croatian playwright, poet, screenwriter, director, set designer, costume designer, puppeteer, and theater and film professional will remain at the center of the two-day program held on August 22 and 23 in Stari Grad on Hvar.
Friends and colleagues will gather to evoke memories of Mujičić's literary and dramatic works, as well as his personality. All events begin at 9 PM on St. Stephen's Square. The organization is by the Moria Association, and the festival is under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Croatia, Zoran Milanović.
On the first festival evening, August 22, the audience can expect a musical and theatrical collage titled "Friends on Tahir Mujičić." Performing will be academician Boris Senker, professor emeritus Joško Božanić, opera artist Dinko Lupi, music artist Egle Trošelj, actor Kristijan Ugrina, and musician and actor Zoran Kelava.
The following day, August 23, will feature the presentation of Mujičić's last book, "Slightly Shorter Novels or More on Films and Cinemas." The work was published just before the author's death, in February of this year.
Mujičić was born in Zagreb on July 21, 1947. Throughout his career, he founded or co-founded several theater companies: HPK-Hvar, Malik Tintilinić - Trešnja Theater, the Histrion acting company, lec MManipuli, ad HOC, Teatar za po doma, and UHLOD.
His professional path also led him through publishing and media. He worked as a manager, journalist, editor, and editor-in-chief at Vjesnik's publishing house, and also served as director of Egmont Croatia. As artistic director of Zagreb Film, he was responsible for restarting the production of the animated series about Professor Balthazar. He directed and designed sets, costumes, and puppets in numerous Croatian theaters.
His authorial opus includes 42 dramatic texts, 39 of which have been performed on stage, and 11 poetry collections. For the novel "Be Hamlet, Mr. Hamlet!" he won the T-portal award for novel of the year in 2014.
