Trackhouse Aprilia rider Raul Fernandez secured his second MotoGP career victory at Silverstone. In the race held on August 9, 2026, Fernandez dominated from start to finish, crossing the line 2.5 seconds ahead of championship leader Jorge Martin. Fernandez started from second on the grid but immediately took the lead after Martin's ride-height device failed to disengage in the first corner, costing the current points leader valuable positions.
This victory is particularly significant as Aprilia managed to lock out the entire podium. Second place went to Martin on the factory Aprilia, who recovered from his initial issue to fight back and secure the runner-up spot. His teammate, the recovered Marco Bezzecchi, clinched third place, earning his second podium of the weekend. Bezzecchi successfully fended off pressure from Gresini Ducati's Alex Marquez, who made a mistake late in the race and dropped down the order, finishing fourth. According to ANSA reports, Pedro Acosta on the KTM took fifth, while Fabio Di Giannantonio (VR46 Ducati) and reigning world champion Marc Marquez rounded out the top seven. Marquez endured another tough afternoon, finishing seventh after starting from sixth.
Fernandez impressively made amends for his crash in yesterday's sprint race. His exceptionally fast pace in the early stages raised questions about tire wear, but the Spaniard managed the situation without major issues and maintained his lead to the finish. This victory comes at a time when Fernandez had earlier faced the possibility of losing his seat, making today's success even more dramatic.
After issues with the soft rear tire in the sprint, all riders opted for the medium rear and hard front combination for the main race. The race was full of incidents; in the first lap, Joan Mir and Alex Rins collided, both ending up off track, but FIM stewards took no action. Later, Enea Bastianini, Iker Lecuona, Cal Crutchlow, Pecco Bagnaia, and Ogura all crashed out individually. Trackhouse rookie Ai Ogura suffered his first crash of the season, which allowed Martin to extend his championship lead further.
With second place, Jorge Martin further solidified his position at the top of the standings. As it stands, Martin leads with 240 points, while Bezzecchi is second with 209. Ai Ogura sits third with 203 points, and defending champion Marc Marquez is fourth with 200. Martin's points advantage now stands at 31 points over Marco Bezzecchi, 37 over Ogura, and a full 40 points over Marc Marquez. The next race, the Aragon Grand Prix, takes place at the end of this month.
