Lokomotiva has bolstered their defense with a new signing. Fran Karačić, a 30-year-old right-back and former team captain, will once again don the striped jersey. He returns to Kajzerica on a one-year loan from Hajduk, with whom he signed last year, having arrived from Lokomotiva. According to Transfermarkt, the transfer fee was 200,000 euros.
Karačić is seeking stability in his game, aiming to regain form and become a key player once more. That opportunity presents itself precisely where it all began. In 2012, he joined Lokomotiva's youth academy (U-17), after coming from Kustošija. Three years later, he made his debut for the first team, and in 2020, he earned a transfer to Dinamo, where he was only a fleeting presence.
Following stints at Brescia and Rudeš, Karačić returned to Lokomotiva in the summer of 2024 and had an outstanding season: 34 appearances, four goals, and four assists. A year later, he tried his luck at Poljud. Despite a promising start in Hajduk's jersey last season, he lost his starting spot under coach Gonzalo Garcia by the winter break and was loaned to Osijek. For the Slavonian club, he made 11 appearances and scored one goal. In Osijek, he was part of the fight for survival at the end of the season.
This season, he has not played for Hajduk. He only spent one match on the bench, against Žilina at Poljud in the Europa League qualifiers. It was clear that Garcia did not plan to use him. Since Garcia didn't seriously count on him, a return to Lokomotiva emerged as the logical solution. At Lokomotiva, he played the best football of his career and was captain. He will try to make Kajzerica his happy place once again.
In recent days and weeks, Lokomotiva has been testing the waters regarding Roko Šimić, as confirmed by Božidar Šikić, but he added that any possibility of bringing in the 22-year-old striker has fallen through. Foreign offers have emerged, including one from Magdeburg, which Lokosi could not or did not want to compete with. Until the end of the transfer window, they will continue to look for a striker, as well as a center-back, as coach Nikica Jelavić recently requested.
From the defense, Kolinger (Persija Jakarta), Dajčer (Sarajevo), and Kamenović (contract termination) have left, while only Triantafyllou has arrived from Lokos. Although the 23-year-old Greek has started well in the HNL, scoring on his debut and being strong in the air alongside Tina Jukić, the defense needs strengthening. In reserve are only two 19-year-olds, Kralevski and Godec, who have yet to prove their worth.
