Firefighters in the Split area and the Split-Dalmatia County had an extremely busy Tuesday, August 11, 2026. According to information from Dalmacija News, several different interventions were recorded, ranging from a car fire and open-space blaze to tree removal and technical assistance to citizens.
Car Fire and a Series of Technical Interventions in Split
The Split Public Fire Brigade started the day with an intervention in the Lora area at 9:25 AM, where two firefighters with one vehicle sawed and removed a pine tree. Later, at 12:04 PM, a report came in about a fire involving a Peugeot passenger car on Vrh Visoke Street. The vehicle was completely burned, and six firefighters with one vehicle participated in extinguishing it.
In the afternoon, three firefighters with one vehicle went to Krančevićeva Street at 5:45 PM to open an apartment door. In the evening, two firefighters with one vehicle provided security for the "Split Summer" performance at the Marjan amphitheater. The day for the Split Public Fire Brigade continued into the early morning hours when they were called to KBC Split at 2:40 AM to assist in removing a ring from a hand, which was done by two firefighters with one vehicle.
Meanwhile, members of the Split Volunteer Fire Department were also engaged. At 10:15 AM, they sawed and removed a branch on Ivana Gundulića Street, and at 2:25 PM, they intervened to open an apartment door on Sukoišanska Street.
Fiery Night on Biokovo and Fires in the Interior
The most demanding intervention of the day took place in the hard-to-reach terrain near Gornji Igrani on Biokovo, where an open-space fire broke out. Numerous forces from the Makarska area were involved in extinguishing it, including the Makarska Public Fire Brigade and the volunteer fire departments of Makarska, Podgora, Tučepi, Baška Voda, and Brela. In total, there were eight fire vehicles and 33 firefighters on the ground, supported from the air by four Canadair planes.
The fire was contained at 8:09 PM, and approximately 1.5 hectares of grass and low vegetation were burned. During the night, the Podgora Volunteer Fire Department patrolled the fire site, and according to the latest information, the fire was extinguished by midnight.
Almost simultaneously, at 8:27 PM, a grass and low vegetation fire broke out in Dicmo, in the Prisoje area. The fire affected about 600 square meters, and firefighters from the Dicmo Volunteer Fire Department responded. In Kaštel Sućurac, at 9:59 PM, another technical intervention to open an apartment door was recorded, involving firefighters from the Mladost Volunteer Fire Department.
