Croatia remains in the grip of a vast anticyclone that continuously brings hot air to our region. Although nearby, above the Alps, the weather is becoming more unstable, a real push of fresh air and significant rain are not in sight, according to meteorologist Dorian Ribarić for Net.hr. According to current forecast models, we have an extremely warm and sunny week ahead, with rain mostly absent.
The morning will be completely clear and sunny across the country, with no clouds in the sky. On the mainland, the night will still be pleasant for sleeping, with temperatures between 14 and 18 degrees Celsius. Along the Adriatic, however, tropical nights will prevail with temperatures not dropping below 25°C, especially in the far south. Along the coast, a weak to moderate bura will blow in places, while on the mainland it will be calm.
Midday and afternoon in central and northwestern Croatia will be mostly sunny. Only towards the end of the day, near the border with Slovenia, moderate cloudiness may appear, but there will be no precipitation. Temperatures will range from 33 to 35°C. In Slavonia, Baranja, and Srijem, almost clear skies are expected, with a weak to moderate southeast wind and temperatures around 34-35°C. Already on the first day of the week, the temperature in Slavonski Brod could reach around 35 degrees, while the morning's 15-odd degrees will still allow for at least a few more pleasant hours. It is precisely for the start of the week that high-temperature warnings are in effect, confirming that we are not in for just the usual August heat.
Dalmatia will enjoy an abundance of sunshine, with only the occasional small cloud developing in the hinterland. A passing moderate maestral will provide some relief by the sea, but the heat will be pronounced. Temperatures will range from 33 to 36°C, and in the hinterland they can reach as high as 38°C.
In the northern Adriatic, sunny weather will also prevail. The exception is the far north of Istria and Gorski Kotar, where near the border with Slovenia there is a slight chance of a local shower. Daytime temperatures will be between 32 and 36°C, and often above 30°C even in the highlands.
On the mainland, a stable and dry period continues. Local afternoon showers are possible around the highlands, and only on Tuesday and Wednesday. Tuesday could be the hottest day of the week in Slavonski Brod, with temperatures possibly reaching as high as 37 degrees Celsius, along with a noticeably warmer night during which the temperature will not drop much below 20 degrees. Wednesday brings only slight relief with temperatures around 34 degrees, while on Thursday daytime values will drop to around 32 degrees, and morning lows to about 14. An even fresher morning is expected on Friday, with temperatures around 12 degrees, but during the day the mercury will again approach 33 degrees. The pronounced daytime heat will not let up, and from Thursday nights on the mainland will become more pleasant again. The weekend brings another surge of heat – around 35 on Saturday and around 34 on Sunday, with nighttime and morning temperatures between 15 and 17 degrees.
On the Adriatic, the heatwave continues with a series of very hot days. The hardest nights to sleep will be Wednesday and Thursday, when a moderate to strong föhn bura will blow. There is a very small chance of a shower on Tuesday in the Rijeka hinterland and on Wednesday in the Dalmatian hinterland. However, no real refreshment or significant rain is in sight.
