Residents of Špansko and surrounding neighborhoods will have to cool off elsewhere for a while longer. The long-awaited pool, whose opening was announced for July, is delayed, and the City of Zagreb now says it expects the facility to start operating in the coming weeks.

Use Permit Issued, but Pool Still Not Open

Although the investment has passed key administrative steps, residents still can't enjoy the new sports complex. A technical inspection was carried out at the end of July, and the use permit was issued on August 3. However, that wasn't enough for an immediate opening.

"Final preparations are underway to get the Špansko pool ready for users. Before it can be used, we still need to carry out the prescribed procedures for cleaning, filling the pool, and adjusting and testing all systems," the City of Zagreb told Zagreb.info. The opening is now officially expected "in the next few weeks."

Residents Disappointed: "On Weekends, It's Off to Šalate, No Other Option"

The delay has particularly disappointed locals who had hoped for some relief from the summer heat. Back in spring, it was said the pool would be operational during the summer, with July mentioned as the target month.

"We thought, okay, it's hot, but we'll have a pool where we can cool off. Somewhere to take the kids during this heat. But nothing yet-I pass by the complex every day and look for any notice that the pool is open. I'm really angry!" a resident of Špansko told Zagreb.info. She added that she had promised her kids a swim nearby, and now they're forced to travel to Šalate on weekends.

Looking for 14 Workers to Staff the Complex

That the opening is approaching is also suggested by a job posting issued by the institution Upravljanje sportskim objektima at the end of July. They're currently looking for 14 workers across five different positions, including lifeguards, masseurs, service staff, and cleaners.
