Hajduk will play the first leg of the Conference League playoff against Poland's Raków at Poljud on Thursday. The winner of the two-legged tie will secure European football in the autumn, while the loser will focus on domestic competitions. The match was previewed by Šimun Hrgović, the defender of the Split-based club.
In his opening remarks, Hrgović stressed the importance of maintaining a solid defense. "The fact that we haven't conceded a goal so far in our home European matches gives us a dose of confidence. It's a sign that we're doing well. It's imperative that we don't concede and that we try to score as many goals as possible," said the Hajduk defender.
Asked how much the coach's trust means to him, Hrgović replied: "It certainly means a lot to me; it shows that the coach believes in me. With that, I gain more confidence and can progress even further."
Regarding Raków's strength compared to previous opponents like Žilina, Pafos, and Žalgiris, Hrgović highlighted the quality of the Polish side. "They're a good team; we've analyzed them well. They've played in the Conference League and reached the playoffs, which means they're a good team," he stated.
Hrgović also touched on Hajduk's differing performances at home and away. "Honestly, I don't know what to say about that. At home, we play really well, then there was the Pafos game where we conceded a goal in the last minute. Against Žalgiris, we decided to show who we are and what we're about. I think it's all a matter of mentality, and we managed to change that," concluded the defender.
