At the World Championship in Chile, the Croatian U17 women's national team secured a spot among the top eight teams in the world. According to Večernji list, the young Croatians outplayed the Czech Republic in the round of 16 with a score of 3:0 (25:21, 25:21, 25:19), with the match lasting only 70 minutes.
Croatia imposed their rhythm from the very beginning of the match. In the first set, they quickly took a 3:0 lead and maintained a several-point advantage for most of the set; the Czechs managed to reduce the deficit towards the end but never seriously threatened Croatia's lead.
The second set followed a similar pattern. After an initial tie, Croatia went on a run to lead 16:7. The Czechs briefly closed the gap, but the Croatian players calmly closed out the set.
In the third set, the winner was no longer in doubt. Croatia kept the score under control from the start, with the decisive run coming when they extended an 18:12 lead to 22:12. The Czech Republic never managed to get back into the match.
Croatia was particularly dominant in attack, scoring 44 points compared to the Czech Republic's 26. Croatia also had the edge in aces (8-3), while the Czechs had more blocks (9-4) and fewer errors (19-23).
Erin Ivezić was the standout performer for Croatia with 23 points, while Lana Drviš added 11, including three aces and two blocks. Emilie Stojić chipped in with 10 points, and libero Marta Novačić also made a significant contribution.
Croatia now faces an even bigger challenge in the quarterfinals. Their next opponent will be China, who defeated the Dominican Republic 3:1 in the round of 16. The match is scheduled for Friday at 8 PM Croatian time.
