Croatia Under High-Pressure System: Temperatures Up to 38°C

Croatia remains trapped under a vast high-pressure system that relentlessly holds hot air over the entire country, and according to the forecast released on Monday, August 10, 2026, real relief is nowhere in sight. The only hint of instability will appear near the Alps, but it will have almost no significant impact on our region. Meteorologist Tea Blažević confirms that we are in the midst of a heatwave, with the greatest danger on the Adriatic, where the highest heat warning level is in effect. Already early this morning, temperatures at the sea were high, with Dubrovnik recording 28.1 degrees Celsius at 6 a.m.

Monday Brings Mugginess and Temperatures Up to 38°C

The morning will dawn completely clear and sunny, without a single cloud in the sky. While inland, the night will still be bearable for sleeping, with temperatures between 14 and 18 degrees Celsius, along the Adriatic it remains tropical, with values above 25 degrees, especially in the far south. Along the coast, a weak to moderate burin (a gentle breeze) will blow. The UV index remains high and very high, so adequate protection from solar radiation is recommended.

Central and northwestern Croatia will have sunny but muggy weather during the midday and afternoon hours, with temperatures reaching between 33 and 35 degrees. Although moderate cloud cover may develop near the Slovenian border towards the end of the day, no precipitation is expected. In Slavonia, Baranja, and Srijem, the day will be mostly sunny, with only a few clouds possible in the evening in the west, accompanied by a weak, locally moderate southeast wind and temperatures around 34 to 35 degrees.

Dalmatia and the Northern Adriatic Face a Hot Challenge

Dalmatia can expect an abundance of sunshine, with only a few small clouds possibly developing in the hinterland. A moderate maestral (a sea breeze) will intermittently blow, providing some relief at least near the sea, but the mercury will still range from 33 to 36 degrees, reaching as high as 38 degrees Celsius in the hinterland.

The northern Adriatic will also be mostly sunny, with only a slight chance of local rain or a brief shower in northern Istria and Gorski Kotar, right near the Slovenian border. According to Tea Blažević, a passing shower is possible on Monday only in Gorski Kotar. The highest daily temperature, with a sea breeze, will be between 32 and 36 degrees, and even in the highlands, it will often exceed 30 degrees.

Rest of the Week: Foehn Bura Arrives, But No Relief

In the rest of the week, there is no significant change inland; rain is not in sight, and only local afternoon showers, and only on Tuesday and Wednesday, are possible near the highlands. Tuesday will also be full of sunshine, but afternoon showers are possible in the northern Adriatic, Gorski Kotar, and the far west near the Slovenian border. It will be mostly sunny, with pronounced daytime heat not letting up, and from Wednesday, a moderate north and northeast wind will blow intermittently. Nights inland will become slightly more comfortable again from Thursday.

On the Adriatic, uncomfortably warm, almost very warm nights continue, followed by very hot days. The hardest nights to sleep will be Wednesday and Thursday, when a moderate to strong, true foehn bura will blow. There is a very small chance of a shower on Tuesday in the Rijeka hinterland and on Wednesday in the Dalmatian hinterland, but real relief, as well as significant rain, is not in sight. The heatwave at the sea continues, while inland, the heat will be more pronounced at the beginning of the week. In the second part of the week and over the weekend, the weather will remain stable, hot, and very hot, and forecast materials only for the next week of August indicate possible relief and a new, stronger weather change.
