The third edition of the tournament on the Feast of the Assumption brings together six teams, with all proceeds going to support cancer patients through the Senj League Against Cancer.
Senj will host a sporting event on the Feast of the Assumption that transcends the boundaries of the pitch. The Humanitarian Tournament of Senj Neighborhoods, whose third edition kicks off on August 15, 2026, at 5 PM, is being played this year for a noble cause: raising funds for the Senj League Against Cancer, an association that has been providing continuous support and assistance to cancer patients since 2003.
Preparations for the tournament have been underway practically all summer, and in just two years, the event has become an indispensable part of Senj's summer. The stories and anecdotes of the coaches, players, and technical staff have already become part of local conversations, but behind the sporting and entertaining facade lies a much deeper mission.
"The people of Senj have shown they have big hearts whenever they've been called upon for such actions. Unfortunately, we are a town with a high number of cancer patients, and we strive to provide them with the help they need. Thank you to everyone who invests their time and resources in this tournament. I hope we all have a great time on Saturday, but also do something good for ourselves and our fellow citizens," said Dr. Miroslav Prpić, president of the Senj League Against Cancer.
In the men's competition, six Senj teams will compete. The draw determined that Group A includes Stolačko Neighborhood, Trbušnjak, and Lopica/Varoš, while Group B features Alej, Centar, and Mundaričevac. Stolačko Neighborhood is defending a double crown, having won first place in both previous tournaments. Last year, second place went to Alej, and third to Mundaričevac.
The tournament will open with the current champions, who face Trbušnjak in the first match. Women's teams add a special dimension to the competition, in the main part of the program, the East and West teams will face off.
The organizers, a group of Senj sports enthusiasts and neighborhood representatives, with the support of the City of Senj and the Sports Community of Lika-Senj County, as well as numerous donors from Senj and the surrounding area, have prepared a rich accompanying program. Visitors can expect a raffle with numerous prizes, unlimited food and drinks, and the sale of unique T-shirts. After the sporting part, the gathering continues with live music, and the tournament is expected to last well into the night.
