Italian insider Matteo Moretto, who works for Marca, announced on Twitter that Dinamo Zagreb is tracking Mexican international goalkeeper Raúl Rangel. The news arrived on August 19, 2026, and Moretto wrote: "Dinamo Zagreb quiere a Raúl Rangel, portero de Chivas. @marca".
Rangel is 26 years old and has built his entire career so far within the Chivas system. He went through the club's academy, and before his debut for the first team, he played for the development squad Tapatío. He got his chance among the first team in 2023, and his good performances opened the door to the national team.
He debuted for Mexico a year after his breakthrough at Chivas, in a friendly against Uruguay, and to date has collected 19 international caps. At the 2026 World Cup in Mexico, he was in the spotlight as the coach selected him as the first-choice goalkeeper in all five matches of the host nation.
Up to the round of 16, Rangel showed outstanding skills and remained unbeaten, but England eliminated Mexico 3-2 in the knockout stage. According to Transfermarkt data, his market value is eight million euros, and his contract with Chivas runs until the summer of 2028.
In his club career so far, he has made 109 appearances for Chivas, conceded 121 goals, and kept 35 clean sheets. He debuted for the senior team on October 1, 2023, against Toluca, at the age of 23, and before that, from 2020, he played for Tapatío, Chivas's development team. Mexican media highlight that his career at the club was far from secure: according to the story of former goalkeeping coach Luis Valls, Rangel as a teenager several times considered returning home to Ciudad Guzmán and had to be persuaded to stay at the academy.
Rangel's style of play is described as calm and authoritative. Under the nickname "Tala", he acts like a goalkeeper more experienced than his years, controls the penalty area, and is rarely thrown off balance. The Guardian reports that he combines great reflexes with excellent positioning and that, unlike traditional loud goalkeepers, his approach is more measured, choosing the right moments to react. Off the pitch, he is known for not seeking attention, being grounded, and focused on constant improvement rather than media hype.
Dinamo is still searching for a goalkeeper, and Rangel is just one of the options. The club's main desire remains Dominik Livaković, who could soon sign for Barcelona. Alongside him, Dominik Kotarski has also been mentioned as a potential addition.
According to 24sata Sport, Rangel is a sort of C option after Kotarski. Dinamo is monitoring him, but so far has taken no steps, and that will not change as long as there is a possibility of Livaković returning to Zagreb.
Tportal adds that before the World Cup, Sporting, Feyenoord, Fenerbahçe, and other clubs were interested in Rangel, which could complicate negotiations over the transfer fee. The same source notes that Dinamo failed to agree with Fenerbahçe on a significantly lower fee for Livaković, so it is hard to believe that the Zagreb club could meet Chivas's financial demands.
Meanwhile, the Livaković saga has taken a new twist: his agent Andy Bara has crafted a potential deal involving a triangle between Fenerbahçe, Barcelona, and Dinamo. According to media reports, Zvonimir Boban and Dinamo's management tried to bring the Croatian international back from Fenerbahçe, and the goalkeeper himself wanted to return to the Zagreb club with which he won the double last season. A combination is open in which all four parties could benefit, so it remains to be seen which of these solutions will ultimately end up guarding the Maksimir goal.
In the meantime, Dinamo is preparing for the home match of the 4th round of the SuperSport HNL against NK Varaždin. The match is scheduled for Saturday, August 22, at 9 PM at Maksimir Stadium. After that, the team travels to Norway for a win worth the Champions League.

The pre-sale for club members starts on August 19 at 11 AM and lasts until August 20 at 10 AM, while general sale begins on August 20 at 11 AM. Prices for the West lower stand are 15 euros for members and 20 euros for other fans, while the North lower stand is available exclusively to members at a price of 7 euros.
