Inter have reached a verbal agreement with Liverpool over the transfer of midfielder Curtis Jones, as reported on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, by transfer specialists Fabrizio Romano and Gianluca Di Marzio. The total value of the deal is €35 million, and an agreement has also been reached with the player, while a medical is still to be scheduled.
The negotiations were not straightforward. According to available information, the Nerazzurri had previously received rejections for two offers at Anfield. The first was around €25 million, and the second was raised to €32 million. Liverpool reportedly wanted more than €40 million, but the two sides eventually managed to bridge the gap.
As Romano and Di Marzio report, it has been verbally agreed that Liverpool will receive €30 million upfront, with a possible €5 million more in add-ons. In the coming period, all remaining administrative steps are expected to be completed to finalize the deal.
Interestingly, Inter had already shown interest in Jones back in January, proposing a loan with an option to buy, but Liverpool rejected that option as it did not fit their plans. Now they have returned with a concrete offer for a permanent transfer that should satisfy both parties.
The player's own desire also played a key role in the negotiations. According to reports, Jones wanted to join Inter, and his contract with Liverpool was set to run until the end of next season. The English midfielder is expected to sign a long-term deal with the Nerazzurri until the summer of 2031.
His arrival would give Inter a player who can cover several positions in midfield, as well as a player with great experience despite just entering the prime years of his career.
According to Italian sources, Jones will earn €3.5 million net per season at Inter, plus bonuses. The total annual cost to the club, including transfer amortization and gross salary, will be approximately €12.5 million per season.
For the 25-year-old Jones, the move to Inter will represent a major change, as he has spent his entire professional career so far at Liverpool. Before breaking into the first team, he progressed through all the youth ranks at the Anfield club, and over time he became a key player.
He made 228 appearances for Liverpool's senior side and scored 22 goals, and now he faces his first adventure away from the club where he grew up. If there are no last-minute surprises, his next club will be in Milan, in Serie A.
Last season, Jones made 49 appearances in all competitions, but started only 18 Premier League matches. Under Arne Slot, he failed to secure a regular starting spot, which further influenced his decision to seek a new environment.
If the transfer is finalized, Jones will become the third English footballer to join Inter this summer, following John Stones and Djed Spence. The Milan club is clearly building an English contingent of players with Premier League experience.
