English international striker Ivan Toney has found himself on the wrong side of the law. The Metropolitan Police in London announced on Friday, August 7, 2026, that the 30-year-old has been charged with assault causing bodily harm. The incident allegedly took place at a nightclub in London's Soho district.
According to information from the police statement, the assault occurred on December 6, 2025, at a nightclub on Wardour Street. Toney, who hails from Northamptonshire, was formally charged on Thursday, July 31, 2026.
"Ivan Toney (30) from Northamptonshire was charged on Thursday, July 31, with assault causing bodily harm. He will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Thursday, September 24," the official Metropolitan Police statement read.
Toney's spokesperson also responded to the charges, relaying the footballer's reaction in a statement to the media. "Ivan acknowledges the charge and, although he is shocked, he looks forward to the opportunity to clear his name in court," the spokesperson said.
Toney currently plays for Saudi Pro League club Al-Ahli, where he scored an impressive 42 goals last season. He was also part of the England squad at this year's World Cup, where manager Thomas Tuchel included him in the starting lineup for the bronze medal match. England defeated France 6-4 in that encounter.
Interestingly, Toney's court hearing at Westminster Magistrates' Court is scheduled for September 24, 2026. That is exactly two days before England hosts world champions Spain at Wembley in the opening Group 3A match of the Nations League.
Croatia is also in the same group and will be playing away in the Czech Republic at the same time.
