At least six Palestinians, including a child, were killed in an Israeli strike on Gaza City, Shifa Hospital confirmed. The same attack wounded 14 people, according to AP, citing Palestinian health authorities.
Two Israeli rockets struck a café in the fishing district of western Gaza City. That part of the port has been turned into a large camp for displaced Palestinians during the war. The war in Gaza began in October 2023.
The Israeli military said it targeted Hamas commanders in the Shati area, claiming they were planning attacks on its forces. Hamas is the Palestinian organization that has been in power in Gaza since 2007.
A day before the strike, U.S. President Donald Trump's special envoy, Jared Kushner, concluded his stay in the region in an attempt to advance Trump's plan to end the war in Gaza.
Kushner met yesterday in Jerusalem with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and a day earlier with mediators and Hamas leaders in Egypt.
"Israel retains the full right to defend itself, and there will be no withdrawal of Israeli troops until Hamas is completely disarmed," a Trump administration official from the "Peace Committee" told Reuters.
Israeli forces have killed at least 1,266 Palestinians since October last year, when the official ceasefire between Israel and Hamas was brokered, according to data from Gaza's health authorities.
