Croatian international Joško Gvardiol is today, July 27, 2026, finalizing all last formalities and a media content shoot for the official announcement of his new contract with Manchester City. The news was first reported by transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, and has been confirmed by local media such as Tportal.
"Joško Gvardiol will today complete all formal steps including media matters with Manchester City to announce his new contract. The agreement, reached back in June, will run until summer 2031 with a salary increase," Romano wrote on his Telegram channel.
According to Tportal, the agreement between the 24-year-old defender and the English club was reached in June 2026. The new contract will run until the summer of 2031 and includes a salary increase. Gvardiol's previous contract was valid until 2028.
In recent months, Gvardiol's name has been heavily linked with Real Madrid. Romano reported back in mid-June that the Spanish giant had been exploring the possibility of a transfer for weeks, but Manchester City was confident that the Croatian international would remain at the Etihad.
Gvardiol joined Manchester City from RB Leipzig in 2023 in a transfer worth around €90 million. He quickly became a key defender for the English powerhouse, and the new long-term contract now confirms his status in the club's plans. Manchester City is expected to officially announce the contract extension soon.
