Celebrated Croatian handball players and Olympic gold medalists Nikša Kaleb and Goran Šprem are gearing up for a brand-new challenge. The duo that wore the national team jersey for years will swap the sports arena this September for a spot in the show 'Asia Express: Dragon Route'. The show will air on RTL and the Voyo platform.
The news of their participation was published by Net.hr on August 11, 2026. Although they are used to the pressure of major competitions, this adventure will be something entirely different for Kaleb and Šprem. Details about their preparation or expectations are not yet known, but it's clear that the toughest race of their lives awaits them.
Kaleb and Šprem are joining forces once again, this time in a reality format. Their participation in 'Asia Express' is sure to draw the attention of many fans who follow the careers of these celebrated athletes.
Recall that Kaleb and Šprem won Olympic gold with the Croatian national team in Athens in 2004, as well as gold at the World Championship in Portugal in 2003. After ending their professional careers, their life paths took them in different directions: Kaleb, a native of Metković and father of two, dedicated himself to professional diving, while Šprem, also a father of two, is involved in sports tourism. Despite being retired, as they say, the winning mentality is still very much present.
What makes them special is their long-standing trust. "We are a well-coordinated duo," they say, confident that their friendship, sports experience, and what they jokingly call "cosmic harmony" will help them overcome all obstacles on the Dragon Route. They are aware that tough conditions, little sleep, and unpredictable challenges lie ahead, but that won't deter them.
When asked about physical advantages, Kaleb laughs and says: "I'm entering this race with one healthy knee, a healthy heart, and healthy lungs." Šprem adds: "Our biggest advantage is that we can still walk normally, despite all the plates, anchors, and screws we have in our bodies."
Whether their winning mentality will be enough for the toughest race of their lives, viewers will find out this September on RTL and Voyo.
