English football club Coventry confirmed on Saturday, August 8, 2026, the signing of Ghana international Kaleb Jirenki from Danish side Nordsjælland. The transfer is worth £26 million, making the young midfielder the sixth addition for manager Frank Lampard this summer.
The 20-year-old midfielder caught the eye with impressive performances at the 2026 World Cup, where he featured in all four of his national team's matches. Before the tournament, he found the net in a friendly against Wales, and then scored the winning goal against Panama in the first group-stage match. In the goalless draw with England, he played the full 90 minutes.
His displays did not go unnoticed, with numerous clubs from the Premier League and other European leagues reportedly showing interest. However, Jirenki opted for Coventry, the newly promoted side to England's top flight.
Last season, Jirenki was named the best young player in the Danish Superliga and was included in the league's Team of the Season. He has made over 50 appearances for Nordsjælland and has earned 15 caps for Ghana so far.
Coventry's new signing did not hide his delight after putting pen to paper. "I'm really excited to join this club. I've heard many great things and immediately got a positive impression. When I spoke with the manager about the plans and playing style, I realized it suits me perfectly," Jirenki said.
He added that he can't wait to play in front of the new fans. "I want to give my all every day, learn from the coaching staff and teammates, and work hard for the team. I've also heard a lot about our supporters and can't wait to play in front of them," the Ghana international stated.
Jirenki is already the sixth signing brought in by manager Frank Lampard this summer. Coventry has spent over £85 million on new players in the current transfer window, clearly signaling their serious ambitions for the upcoming season.
