The 350-square-meter facility with six apartments will be built next to the Oncology Clinic of the Mostar University Clinical Hospital, providing free accommodation for patients from other cities during treatment.
On August 12, 2026, the cornerstone was laid for the construction of the House of Hope in the immediate vicinity of the Oncology Clinic of the Mostar University Clinical Hospital. This facility is intended to provide free accommodation for oncology patients coming from other cities and municipalities for treatment, and the project is the result of a humanitarian campaign by the Light of Hope Foundation in cooperation with the Mostar hospital.
The cornerstone was jointly laid by the director of the Mostar University Clinical Hospital, Dr. Ante Kvesić, the head of the Oncology Clinic, Dr. Inga Marijanović, and an oncology patient from Posušje, Marija Crnogorac. Among the guests was the President of the Government of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton, Marija Buhač, who described the project as a highly humane act that bears witness to the great heart of Mostar and Herzegovina.
"This is certainly a significant day for Mostar and our canton, that is, for our healthcare system and the care system for patients dealing with some of the most difficult diagnoses. Besides providing accommodation for oncology patients, this house will also be a place of togetherness, support, rest, and hope on their path to recovery and their persistent fight against the disease and its consequences," Buhač stated.
As announced, the House of Hope will be a prefabricated building with an area of 350 square meters, fully adapted for people with disabilities. The facility will contain six separate, fully equipped apartments and one central common room intended for socializing and joint activities. The apartments will have their own amenities, aiming to ensure maximum privacy and comfort for patients during their stay.
The head of the Light of Hope Foundation, Antonela Vučić, emphasized that the core mission of the project is to provide comprehensive support to patients of the Oncology Clinic at the Mostar University Clinical Hospital, ensuring them a safe, dignified, and warm space in the immediate vicinity of the hospital.
The construction of the House of Hope is a direct response to the current capacities of the Mostar oncology department, which are no longer sufficient for the growing number of patients. The new facility will increase accommodation options, reduce waiting lists, and provide longer and more continuous therapy for patients traveling from more remote areas.
The President of the Government of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton stated that the cantonal authorities will continue to be a friend and partner of this project, expressing gratitude to the Light of Hope Foundation for the initiative.
