The England captain received the European Golden Shoe for the second time on Wednesday, an award for the top scorer in European leagues, after scoring 36 goals in the Bundesliga.
Harry Kane, the Bayern Munich striker, received the European Golden Shoe on Wednesday, an award given to the top scorer in European leagues. The England international was the top scorer in the German Bundesliga in the 2025/26 season with 36 goals, surpassing all leading scorers in other major European leagues.
This is the second time Kane has won this prestigious award, having first been crowned in 2024. This success comes as the culmination of an exceptional season in which Bayern won the domestic double in Germany. Kane admitted that this year's award tastes sweeter than the first, saying it "tasted even better than the first one."
After receiving the award, Kane highlighted the importance of the team in his success. "I would like to thank Bayern Munich, the staff, the coaches, and my teammates. Without them, I wouldn't be standing here," the English striker said.
He also reflected on the past season, calling it the best of his career so far. "An award like this requires a lot of hard work. I try to help the team in the best way possible. Last season was exceptional, and I'm very proud. It was the best season of my career so far," Kane said.
The numbers support Kane's words. In all competitions in the 2025/26 season, he scored a total of 61 goals in 51 matches, including 36 goals in 31 Bundesliga appearances. With Bayern, he won the Bundesliga title and the German Cup, and in the Champions League, they reached the semifinals, where they were stopped by Paris Saint-Germain, who eventually won the competition.
Kane also became the first player in Bundesliga history to be the league's top scorer in each of his first three seasons in the competition. His 36 goals in the Bundesliga are the third-best single-season tally in German league history. In total, he scored 73 goals for club and country last season, and at the World Cup, he scored six goals, becoming England's all-time top scorer in that competition with 14 goals.
Speaking about the character of the German league, Kane highlighted its attacking nature. "The league is very attacking. Even when you're 2-0 or 3-0 up, the game can still turn. It's a striker's league. Many teams want to win and score goals, and that suits us because we want that too and we want to win," he explained.
He particularly emphasized the role of coach Vincent Kompany in his development. "I feel very comfortable in all positions. The older you get, the more parts of the pitch you learn. Last season, that understanding was better. The coach (Vincent Kompany) allows me to drop deep and help build up play, and then push forward again," Kane said.
He added that the coach has high expectations for the whole team. "The coach expects a lot from everyone, with and without the ball. The team is very special, and I love winning duels just as much as I love scoring goals," concluded the England captain.
Despite last season's successes, Kane and Bayern have no intention of stopping. "I feel very comfortable at Bayern Munich. We always aim for big things and want to repeat that this season," said the former Tottenham striker.
Kane also revealed that he hopes to win the Ballon d'Or, the most prestigious individual award in football. "Obviously, that's out of my control. I know that from now until October, when the winner is announced, there will be a lot of talk about it," he said. "Ultimately, I did everything I could last season. It was my best season so far. I scored a lot with the teams I was in."
Only Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have won the Golden Shoe more times than Kane. Messi has won it six times, all with Barcelona, while Ronaldo has won it three times with Real Madrid and once with Manchester United. "That's for you and the fans to debate," Kane said about the potential winner of this year's Ballon d'Or, which will be awarded in London at the end of October. "That's what makes the Ballon d'Or so special. Many players have had great seasons."
On Monday, Kane also announced upcoming contract extension talks with Bayern, whose current deal runs until 2027.
