American rapper Kanye West, who has gone by the name Ye since 2021, has announced two concerts in Saint Petersburg on October 10 and 11, 2026. The performance at the Gazprom Arena will mark a historic moment, as West will become the first major Western music star to perform in Russia since the start of the invasion of Ukraine in 2022, according to France Info.
Tickets for both concerts, priced between 90 and 1,625 euros, sold out within hours of the announcement. The cheapest tickets, at 9,000 rubles (about 92 euros), were gone within the first hour, according to the Russian state news agency TASS. The most expensive tickets reach 160,000 rubles, or approximately 1,600 euros. The Gazprom Arena, home to the football club Zenit Saint Petersburg, can hold around 70,000 spectators.
Spanish journalists who covered his concert in Madrid on July 30 are promising that audiences in Russia will see an "electrifying" and "spectacular" show.
West's summer tour across the European continent largely fell apart due to bans in several countries. The United Kingdom, France, Poland, Italy, and the Czech Republic prohibited his performances after he released the song "Heil Hitler" in 2025, glorifying Nazi leader Adolf Hitler, and sold T-shirts with swastikas on his website.
The rapper apologized in January for his statements, attributing them to an undiagnosed brain injury and untreated bipolar disorder. "I am not a Nazi or an antisemite; I love the Jewish people," he told the Wall Street Journal.
Despite the bans, West has delivered notable performances in countries that have not closed their doors to him. In the Netherlands, he filled an arena in Arnhem on June 6, 2026, after a court in Amsterdam ruled that his concerts do not pose a threat to public order. In Madrid on July 30, 2026, he performed before an audience where, according to Spanish television, 60 percent of attendees came from countries where they could not see the rapper.
In Portugal, he drew 34,000 fans in the Algarve on August 7, 2026, while in Istanbul, Turkey, he performed before more than 100,000 people. In Albania, he was personally received by the prime minister, and the concert in Tirana was subsidized with public funds to put the capital on the "map of capitals hosting events of this level," as the Albanian government stated.
In Russia, despite the country's cultural isolation, the announcement of West's concerts is not met with unanimous approval. Conservative parliamentarian Vitaly Milonov suggested that the star should perform traditional Russian songs instead of his planned repertoire, reflecting the anti-Western sentiments of many nationalists.
