As a Boy He Posed with Modrić, 10 Years Later They Played Together

Milan's young midfielder Christian Comotto fulfilled his childhood dream when he shared the pitch with the Croatian national team captain in a friendly against Chelsea.
Ten years earlier, Christian Comotto was just a child who posed for a photo with Luka Modrić in awe. This week, as an 18-year-old, the young Milan midfielder experienced a moment he had only dreamed of back then - he played side by side with his idol, but as teammates.
Comotto got the chance in Milan's pre-season friendly against Chelsea, played as part of their summer preparations. Both started the match and found themselves together in the Italian side's midfield. Although Milan ended the match with a convincing 3-0 defeat, the result was completely secondary for Comotto.
It was one of those moments when the numbers on the scoreboard mean little. The young Italian was one of a handful of players from Milan's academy who were given the opportunity during the pre-season period.
What adds special weight to the whole story is that Comotto shared the pitch with none other than Modrić. The Croatian captain arrived at Milan last summer and quickly established himself as an important part of the team. He recently extended his contract with the Italian club for another season, which opened the door for Comotto to share the dressing room with his role model.
Although they are 23 years apart, that evening they were just two teammates in the same shirt on the pitch.
After the match, Comotto shared an old photo on social media of himself as a boy posing with Modrić, thus completing this beautiful story. Alongside the photo, he wrote briefly: "Dreams come true."
From the moment he stood next to his football idol as a boy to playing together in Milan's shirt, ten years have passed. Regardless of the defeat to the English giants, for Comotto this was certainly one of the most special moments of his career so far.
Christian Comotto is considered one of the most highly regarded talents in Milan's academy. He is a central midfielder who joined the club in 2020 from Fiorentina, and previously played for the youth teams of Perugia and Inter. His father, Gianluca Comotto, is a former Italian top-flight player who played for Torino and Fiorentina.
Last season he was on loan at Spezia to gain senior experience, and Milan brought him back this summer and signed him until 2031. The club believes he could become one of the players who will fight for a place in the first team in the future.
