The City of Karlovac has announced that the opening of the access intersection of Banija Street and Obala Trnskog has been postponed until September 4, 2026. The reason is unforeseen circumstances during the rehabilitation works on the Banija Bridge, as reported by Trend Karlovac on Wednesday.
During the works, existing gas pipeline and electronic communications infrastructure (ECI) installations were discovered in the roadbed. As reported by Radio Mrežnica, this caused a halt in the works planned for the bridge rehabilitation.
In order for the works to continue, Hrvatski Telekom d.d. and E.ON Hrvatska d.o.o. must first carry out interventions on their installations. After that, the contractor working on the Banija Bridge will be able to resume asphalt paving and rehabilitation of the access intersection.
According to Radio Mrežnica, in an article by Gordan Tomičić, the City emphasizes that HT and E.ON Hrvatska are obliged to first carry out works on their installations in order to continue with the rehabilitation and asphalt paving of the access intersection at the Banija Bridge.
Despite the unforeseen situation, works on the bridge itself continue as planned. After that, the rehabilitation of the roadway, asphalt paving, and installation of the transition device will follow, which have been temporarily postponed.
Due to the additional works on existing installations, the opening of the intersection for traffic is planned no later than September 4. The news was published on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.
