On the occasion of Bon Scott's 80th birthday, which he would have celebrated this year had he been alive, publisher Rockmark has released the Croatian translation of "Bon: The Last Highway". This biography of the frontman of the Australian rock band AC/DC, written by Australian author Jesse Fink, arrives in Croatia in its second, expanded and revised edition. According to the publisher, it is a "acclaimed yet controversial biography by Australian author Jesse Fink, offering a different perspective on the life, career, and untimely death of the legendary AC/DC frontman."
The first edition, published in 2017, sparked fierce reactions among AC/DC fans. Fink received threats, and some fans publicly called for a boycott, even for burning the book. The controversy didn't stop the author, who continued his research.
Across nearly 500 pages, Fink unflinchingly analyzes Scott's life, his relationships with those close to him, and the dynamics within AC/DC from 1977 to 1980. He pays particular attention to the authorship of the album "Back in Black", and through numerous exclusive testimonies, he attempts to reconstruct the legendary singer's final hours. In doing so, he dismisses the widely held belief that Scott died of alcohol poisoning on February 19, 1980.
The author himself describes Scott's death as "the Da Vinci Code of rock", comparing it to the assassination of President Kennedy for fans of American political history. He considers it the most significant unsolved case of our time because those involved give contradictory accounts, key evidence is missing, and few alleged facts remain unshaken under closer scrutiny. This has fueled various theories for decades.
The expanded edition is the result of three years of research during which Fink spoke with Bon's close friends, partners, and collaborators, and obtained previously unpublished documents and photographs.
As stated in Rockmark's press release, the book represents one of the most extensive investigative efforts on AC/DC. It addresses whether Scott's death was the result of an accident, stupidity and selfishness, or perhaps a desire to end it all. "Or maybe, as the author himself suggests, the truth lies somewhere in between all of the above," the release states.
Bon Scott was born on July 9, 1946, in Scotland and grew up in Australia. According to AC/DC's official website, he moved to Australia with his family as a child. He was AC/DC's lead singer from 1974 until his death in 1980. With the band, he recorded albums such as "T.N.T." and "Highway to Hell," while after his death, the album "Back in Black" was recorded with new singer Brian Johnson and released in 1980. The Croatian translation of the book is available at the Rockmark bookstore and via their webshop.
