Traffic Jams Up to 12 Kilometers at Lučko Entrance, HAK Urges Caution

Increased traffic on major roads toward the coast and at certain border crossings marked the morning of August 1, 2026. According to the Croatian Automobile Club (HAK), the longest queues formed at the approaches to the Lučko toll plaza, with waits of up to 12 kilometers.
On the A1 motorway toward Dubrovnik, congestion began as early as the Zagreb bypass. As reported by Jutarnji list, the queue from the Kosnica interchange stretched 12 kilometers. Tportal reports the same length from that direction. For drivers approaching from the Sveta Nedelja interchange or Zagreb West interchange, data vary: Jutarnji list records a 7-kilometer queue, while Tportal reports a 5-kilometer delay.
Even after passing the toll booths, the situation did not improve significantly. On the stretch between the Lučko and Bosiljevo 2 interchanges, traffic moves in slow-moving queues with occasional brief stops.
Other highways were not spared from congestion. On the A2 motorway, before the Trakošćan toll plaza in the direction of Zagreb, the queue is about 6 kilometers long and, according to HAK data, extends into Slovenia. Due to the increased influx of vehicles, a traffic ban for heavy goods vehicles and buses is in effect between the Đurmanec and Krapina interchanges.
On the A4 motorway, before the Sveta Helena toll plaza in the direction of Zagreb, a queue of about 1 kilometer was recorded. On the DC1 state road, between Gornji Stupnik and Klinča Sela heading south, and in the construction zone near Otrić, traffic moves in slow-moving queues with occasional brief stops.
Additional difficulties were caused by extraordinary events. On the A1 motorway, near the Pristeg rest area in the direction of Zagreb, traffic is reduced to one lane with a speed limit of 60 km/h due to the risk of hitting an object on the road. On the A3 motorway, at kilometer 195+200 between the Lužani and Slavonski Brod West interchanges in the direction of Lipovac, a traffic accident occurred. Traffic is moving in one lane with a speed limit of 80 km/h.
Due to increased traffic density and frequent extraordinary events, HAK has issued an appeal to all road users.
"To make traffic as safe as possible for all participants, we ask drivers to adjust their speed and driving style to road conditions and maintain a safe distance between vehicles," HAK said in a statement to Jutarnji list.
