Summary
  • The longest queue is on the A4 from Popovec to the Zagreb East junction, stretching about 7 km.
  • On the A3, due to the accident on the Sava Bridge, the queue is about 4 km long.
  • Increased traffic is also reported on the A1 toward the coast and on the A2 before Trakošćan (1 km queue).

Drivers on Croatian highways have been facing increased traffic and kilometer-long queues since early morning on August 10, 2026, especially on routes toward the coast. According to the Croatian Automobile Club (HAK), multiple sections are experiencing standstills and slow-moving traffic, and the situation has been further complicated by a traffic accident on the Sava Bridge.

Heaviest Congestion on A4 and A3

The longest queue was recorded on the A4 Goričan-Zagreb highway, where a line of vehicles stretched about 7 kilometers from the Popovec interchange toward the Zagreb East interchange. Drivers on the A3 Bregana-Lipovac highway are also facing significant difficulties, where a queue of approximately 4 kilometers formed due to the accident on the Sava Bridge in the direction of Bregana. According to additional information from HAK, on the Zagreb bypass, the queue extends between the Zagreb West and Lučko interchanges toward Bregana, and at the Lučko toll plaza from the direction of Buzin, the queue is about 2 kilometers long.

Increased Traffic on A1 and A2

On the A1 Zagreb-Split-Dubrovnik highway, traffic is heavy on the section between the Lučko toll plaza and the Bosiljevo 2 interchange toward the coast, where vehicles are moving in queues with occasional standstills. Additionally, standstills have been recorded between the Posedarje interchange and the Sveti Rok tunnel toward Dubrovnik, and after an accident before the Sveti Rok tunnel, traffic is moving slowly in a queue. On the A2 Zagreb-Macelj highway, before the Trakošćan toll plaza in the direction of Zagreb, the queue is about 1 kilometer long, and traffic is restricted to the driving lane on the Krapina–Đurmanec and Trakošćan–Đurmanec sections due to roadworks.

Additional Difficulties on the Istrian Y, Krk Bridge, and Adriatic Highway

On the Istrian Y, there are standstills and queues on the section between the Učka interchange and tunnel, while on the Krk Bridge toward the island, the queue starts from the Kraljevica interchange, and toward the mainland from Njivice. On the Adriatic Highway (DC8), traffic is heavy on approaches to tourist destinations, and on DC1, there is a standstill in the work zone between Gračac and Knin.

Roadworks and Temporary Stops

Until August 31, due to roadworks, the Kraljeva Velika north and south rest areas on the A3 are closed in both directions. Until December 31, on the approach to the Zagreb West interchange (Jankomir), traffic is reduced to one lane with temporary traffic management. Until September 1, drainage repair works are ongoing on the section between the Popovača and Kutina interchanges toward Lipovac. Additionally, until August 12, from 01:00 to 05:00, there will be temporary traffic stops (up to 15 minutes) due to exceptional transport on the A1 and A3 highways, in the area of the Karlovac, Demerje, Lučko, and Zagreb West interchanges.

HAK urges drivers to adjust their speed and driving style to road conditions and to respect speed limits and traffic signals, especially in areas with queues and standstills. It is also recommended to plan your trip taking into account possible roadworks and congestion on approaches to border crossings and ferry ports.
