  • The 29th Krk Sails were ceremoniously opened, marking the 150th anniversary of the Plav Sailing Club.
  • The central event is the traditional boat regatta on the Assumption, August 15.
  • The event runs until August 22, when the OPEN cruiser regatta takes place.

With the raising of the club flag of the Plav Sailing Club and a performance by the City Band, the 29th Krk Sails were ceremoniously opened on Thursday at Vela Placa. This traditional event is held under a special banner this year, marking the 150th anniversary of the Plav Sailing Club, the oldest sailing club on the Adriatic and the founder of Krk Sails.

The director of the Krk Tourist Board, Ivana Kovačić, highlighted the importance of the anniversary and the special program accompanying it. "That's why the exhibition 'Krk Sails, 150 Years of the Plav Sailing Club,' opened at the St. Bernardina Promenade, holds a special place in the program, through which Krk remembers the people who have nurtured sailing and a love for the sea for generations," Kovačić stated. The exhibition remains open until August 22, i.e., until the very end of this year's Krk Sails.

Night Dance of Boats and Regatta on the Assumption

In recent days, visitors have enjoyed a variety of activities, including workshops on sailor skills, a lecture on the club's history, an exhibition of traditional boats, and a boat slalom rowing race for sailing school participants. The Night Dance of Boats, a captivating display of boats dancing in the Krk harbor held on the eve of the Assumption, which also serves as a demonstration of night sailing, draws special attention year after year. This spectacle brings an ever-growing number of people to the Krk waterfront.

The central event of the festival is traditionally tied to the Feast of the Assumption on August 15. On that day, a regatta of traditional boats takes place, starting with the last chime of the noon bell from the Krk Cathedral bell tower, giving the entire competition a special, festive tone.

Klapa Singing and Final Regattas

Klapa singing is an indispensable part of Krk Sails. This year, the klapas Cambi and Luka were in charge of the musical atmosphere, bringing the spirit of Dalmatian song to Krk. The event continues in the coming days, with a veterans' regatta scheduled for Wednesday, August 19. The grand finale follows on Saturday, August 22, when an OPEN cruiser regatta will be held under the OPEN system, marking the end of this year's edition of Krk Sails.
