Weekend Exodus Begins: 3 km Queue on A1, Single Lane Traffic

Traffic is heavier on major roads in Croatia, especially on motorways leading to the coast, the Croatian Automobile Club (HAK) reported on Friday, August 7, 2026. Occasional slowdowns are also being recorded on sections where roadworks are underway, and drivers are urged to exercise caution and adapt their speed to the conditions.
The biggest problems have been recorded on the A1 motorway Zagreb-Ploče-Karamatići. Traffic density is increased on the section between the Lučko toll plaza and the Bosiljevo 2 interchange in the direction of the coast. Due to a traffic accident that occurred between the Donja Zdenčina and Jastrebarsko interchanges, at kilometer 18, traffic towards the coast is moving in a single lane only. This has resulted in slow-moving traffic and the formation of a queue approximately three kilometers long.
The situation on other motorways is not significantly better. On the A2 motorway Zagreb-Macelj, at the Zagreb zapad interchange in the direction of Zagreb, a queue about one kilometer long has formed. Meanwhile, on the A3 motorway Bregana-Lipovac, also at the Zagreb zapad interchange but in the direction of Bregana, traffic is moving slowly in one lane due to another traffic accident.
HAK also warns of restrictions in force in the coastal area. Due to strong winds, bans or restrictions are in place for certain categories of vehicles, which could further slow down travel to tourist destinations. Increased traffic is also being felt on the approaches to ferry ports and docks, as well as at certain border crossings.
