Police officers working on combating migrant smuggling prevented two separate cases of illegal transportation of foreigners in the Vojnić municipality. The operations were carried out between July 30 and August 1, 2026, and resulted in the arrest of two suspects.

Smuggled Migrants for Profit

In the Vojnić area, a 38-year-old citizen of the Republic of Serbia was arrested while driving a passenger car with Zagreb license plates. Simultaneously, in another case, a 30-year-old citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina was arrested while driving a car with Slovenian license plates.

The criminal investigation revealed that both suspects, while driving their vehicles, transported foreigners who had illegally crossed Croatia's border for financial gain. The police treated the migrants found in accordance with the regulations of the Foreigners Act.

Criminal Charges and Detention

Criminal charges were filed against the 38-year-old man and the 30-year-old woman with the competent state attorney's office. They are accused of the criminal offense under Article 326 of the Criminal Code, which pertains to illegal entry, stay, and movement in Croatia, other EU member states, or countries that have signed the Schengen Agreement.

After the completion of the criminal investigation, both suspects were handed over to the detention supervisor of the Karlovac Police Department. In addition to the criminal charges, they will also be processed in accordance with the provisions of the Foreigners Act. Furthermore, the provisions of the State Border Surveillance Act will also be applied to the 38-year-old Serbian citizen.
