Crime thrillers are taking center stage for streaming audiences this summer, and the series "Lucky", starring Anya Taylor-Joy, has quickly emerged as one of the biggest hits. The show premiered on Apple TV on July 15, 2026, and within just a few weeks, it has attracted a massive viewership, ranking among the most notable current titles, according to the specialized media outlet Collider.
The plot is based on the novel of the same name by author Marissa Stapley, published in 2021. Taylor-Joy plays Luciana "Lucky" Armstrong, a woman raised by seasoned con artist John, portrayed by Timothy Olyphant. Together with her husband Cary Masterson, played by Drew Starkey, Lucky plans a multi-million-dollar heist. Their target is no coincidence-it's her mother-in-law Priscilla, a powerful mob boss embodied by Annette Bening.
After the heist succeeds, Lucky and Cary head to Las Vegas to celebrate. However, the idyllic picture shatters the next morning when Lucky discovers that both her husband and all the money have vanished. At the same time, the FBI closes in, led by determined agent Billie Rand (Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor), while her vengeful mother-in-law threatens from behind. Lucky is forced to use every skill she acquired growing up with a con artist to evade both the law and the mob.
Alongside the leading names, the series also features William Fichtner as the dangerous Wayne Whittaker. Critics particularly praise Anya Taylor-Joy's performance, as well as Annette Bening's, whose character is not portrayed one-dimensionally as a ruthless criminal but as a far more complex person. Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor has also received acclaim for her portrayal of the agent who relentlessly pursues Lucky. The series is packed with car chases, fights, and numerous twists that keep viewers on the edge of their seats.
"Lucky" consists of a total of seven episodes, with five currently available. The remaining two episodes are yet to be released, which further heightens anticipation among the audience. The series can only be watched on the streaming platform Apple TV.
