Bloody Clash in Široki Brijeg: 63-Year-Old Wounded, 74-Year-Old and 45-Year-Old Arrested

An incident that rattled the Široki Brijeg area culminated in gunfire and the arrest of two individuals. The Široki Brijeg Police Department received the first report of a physical altercation in front of a family home in Donja Britvica on Monday, August 10, 2026, at around 8:30 PM, only to be followed minutes later by alarming information about gunshots at the same location.
Police patrols that arrived at the scene found a 63-year-old man inside the family home with gunshot wounds and other visible injuries. He was given first aid on the spot and then transported by an ambulance from the Široki Brijeg Health Center to the Center for Emergency Medicine (CUM) at the University Clinical Hospital Mostar for further treatment and evaluation.
At the crime scene, police also found the other participants in the altercation, a 74-year-old and a 45-year-old. Both were immediately taken into custody and are undergoing a thorough criminal investigation. The duty prosecutor from the West Herzegovina Canton Prosecutor's Office was notified, and an on-site investigation was conducted under their supervision. During the investigation, a pistol and a knife were found and seized, suspected to have been used in the commission of the crime.
Following the order of the competent prosecutor, extensive investigative measures are being undertaken due to reasonable suspicion that the criminal offense of "Attempted Murder" has been committed. Officers from the Široki Brijeg Police Department continue their efforts to fully clarify all circumstances of this bloody event. After the case is completed, an official report will be submitted to the West Herzegovina Canton Prosecutor's Office.
