Bloody Weekend on Lika Roads: 15 Accidents

The past weekend in the Lika-Senj County was marked by as many as 15 traffic accidents, confirmed the Lika-Senj Police Department. One person was seriously injured, three sustained minor injuries, and in the remaining 11 accidents, only material damage was recorded.
The most serious accident occurred on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at around 3:30 PM in Gospić. A 24-year-old Croatian citizen was driving a passenger car with Gospić license plates from Gospić towards Perušić. While turning left, she failed to yield to a motorcycle, also with Gospić plates, which was coming from the opposite direction. The motorcycle was ridden by a 51-year-old Croatian citizen.
A powerful impact followed, after which the motorcyclist fell onto the road. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was urgently transported and admitted for treatment at the Clinical Hospital Center Rijeka. The car driver sustained minor physical injuries in the same accident.
Police officers recorded two more traffic accidents with injured persons. One occurred in the area of Senj, and the other in the area of Novalja. In these incidents, two people sustained minor injuries.
The remaining 11 accidents, in which no one was injured, resulted solely in material damage. They occurred at several locations: three each were recorded in the areas of Otočac, Novalja, and Senj, two in the Korenica area, and one in the Gospić area.
The police once again appealed to all road users to strictly adhere to traffic regulations and rules. They particularly emphasized the importance of caution and timely yielding to vehicles that have the right of way, in order to prevent the most severe consequences.
