At a press conference held on Monday, August 17, 2026, at the premises of the Italian Community of Vodnjan, the 24th edition of the International Folklore Festival 'Leron' was presented to the public. The event will take place in Vodnjan from August 20 to 22, and according to Glas Istre, it will once again bring together numerous performers, folk groups, and enthusiasts of traditional culture.
The program for this year's festival was unveiled during the conference, announcing three days dedicated to dance, music, folk customs, and heritage. Over more than two decades, 'Leron' has grown into a recognizable cultural event that makes Vodnjan a meeting point for folk ensembles from Croatia and abroad.
This year's edition brings together a total of 10 folk groups from Croatia, Italy, Slovakia, Romania, and India. The festival is organized by the Italian Community of Vodnjan, and its president, Maurizio Piccinelli, emphasized the importance of preserving tradition and cultural heritage while creating opportunities to pass them on to younger generations.
The role of 'Leron' is not limited to festival performances. The event actively protects and promotes intangible cultural heritage, encourages young people to discover and preserve traditional dances, music, and customs, and connects different communities through cultural exchange. Additionally, the festival strengthens Vodnjan's recognition as a cultural and tourist destination and fosters the multiculturalism that is part of the town's identity.
For 24 years, 'Leron' has served as a point of meeting, exchange, and friendship, as well as a contribution to preserving tradition for future generations. Photos from today's conference were taken by Zoran Oljača.
