PSG coach Luis Enrique stated on Thursday that his team aims to win a third consecutive Champions League title. In a post shared by Fabrizio Romano, the Spanish tactician did not hide the ambitions of the Parisian club.
"Yes, that's our mentality. We're trying. We want to be ambitious. It will be very tough. We don't want to be selfish. But that's our ambition," said Luis Enrique, according to Fabrizio Romano's post.
The statement comes a day after PSG won the European Super Cup on Wednesday, August 12. In Salzburg, Austria, the Parisians defeated Aston Villa 2-1, lifting the 61st trophy in the club's history, coinciding with the 56th anniversary of the club's founding.
According to Le Figaro, PSG under Luis Enrique has won 13 trophies since 2023. The only setbacks during that period were the Champions League semifinal in 2024, the FIFA Club World Cup final in 2025, and elimination in the round of 16 of the Coupe de France in 2026.
PSG player Désiré Doué emphasized the team's winning mentality after the match in Salzburg. "That's our mindset, to always want to win and be as competitive as possible," Doué told Le Figaro.
Le Figaro notes that Aston Villa was not at full strength, as some players like Martinez and Watkins had just returned from vacation, while Rogers and Tielemans were sold during the transfer window. Despite that, PSG did not shine, with goalkeeper Matveï Safonov making several good saves, while Warren Zaïre-Emery delivered a standout performance.
