Milan have agreed a deal to sign Diego Moreira, a 22-year-old Belgian winger from Strasbourg, continuing their sensational moves under the RedBird ownership group. The news was reported almost simultaneously by Klix.ba and Gazzetta dello Sport, but sources differ on the fee: Klix.ba reports €50 million, while Gazzetta dello Sport mentions €45 million.
A Rising Career
Moreira was born in 2004 in Belgium, where his father played for Standard Liège. He developed his career through Benfica's youth ranks, joining in 2020, and then signed for Chelsea in 2023. The English club loaned him to Lyon, and in 2024 he ended up at Strasbourg, a club within Chelsea's ownership network.
In the 2025/26 season, he scored four goals in Ligue 1 and one in the Coupe de France, while in the 2024/25 season he netted two goals. Although not a prolific scorer, Gazzetta highlights his creativity, dribbling, and versatility, as he can cover the entire left flank but also the right, from where he likes to cut inside and shoot with his left foot.
Why Moreira?
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Moreira is the choice of the working group responsible for transfers in Milan's new era. He is particularly valued by coach or staff member Amorim for his technical attributes, and he has also convinced data analysts Bobby Gardiner and Tiago Estevao, who lead the club's new direction. The operation was approved by board member Hendrik Almstadt, and crucially, owner Gerry Cardinale personally wanted to finalize the transfer.
Milan are confident that Moreira will be worth significantly more than €45 million in two, three, or five years. If the deal goes through, he would play as a left midfielder, similar to Estupiñán, or as one of the two players behind Gonçalo Ramos. Competition in those positions includes Pulisic, Loftus-Cheek, Saelemaekers, Alphadjo Cissè, and, if needed, Rabiot.
Quick Closure
Milan want to finalize the transfer within three to four days and are ready to do everything to make it happen, not overly concerned about the price, similar to the Gonçalo Ramos deal. The club's message is clear: it's better to pay more for a player they strongly believe in. Moreira recently posted a story on Instagram wearing Milan's red and black jersey from last season, which now seems like a clear hint of his arrival.
Moreira played for Belgium at the World Cup and is remembered for the match against Senegal, where he came on after an hour and was key in the second-half comeback and extra time. Internationally, he played for Belgium's U-15 team, then all Portuguese youth selections, before switching back to Belgium from the U-21 level.
