Miletić seeks the voice of Lika residents before the Committee

The Most MP has asked the Committee chair to invite representatives of citizen initiatives from Lika and Gospić to tomorrow's session.
On Wednesday, August 19, 2026, Marin Miletić (Most), a member of the Croatian Parliament, sent a letter to Dušica Radojčić, chair of the Committee on Environmental and Nature Protection, requesting that representatives of citizen initiatives from the Lika and Gospić areas be invited to the Committee's session scheduled for the following day. Miletić, who is also a Committee member, believes these individuals should have the opportunity to present their views on the issue of hazardous waste disposal, which is being discussed ahead of an extraordinary session of the Croatian Parliament.
His request was published by the portal Dnevno.hr, along with the full text of the letter.
In his letter, Miletić emphasizes that representatives of citizen initiatives cannot directly participate in the debate during the plenary session of the Parliament, whereas the session of the competent Committee provides exactly such an opportunity. He particularly highlights the importance of the fact that the proposed conclusions of the President of the Republic for the extraordinary session directly concern these people.
"One of the proposed conclusions explicitly refers to representatives of citizen initiatives and suggests that they be received by the Government of the Republic of Croatia. That is precisely why I believe that, before the plenary debate in the Croatian Parliament, it is necessary to hear their stance on the proposed conclusions," Miletić stated in the letter, as reported by Dnevno.hr.
The Most MP stresses that these are people who have been living with the hazardous waste problem for months and who had been warning about it even before it received full attention from state institutions and the public. He believes that the Croatian Parliament, before adopting any conclusions, must hear from them directly.
"The Croatian Parliament represents Croatian citizens and is accountable to them. Therefore, when we discuss an issue that directly concerns their health, safety, water, soil, and the future of the region where they live, the least we can do is allow their representatives to tell the competent Committee what they think about the proposed conclusions and what they expect from state institutions," Miletić said.
Due to the short timeframe and the importance of the topic, he requested that the invitation to tomorrow's Committee session be issued urgently, the letter concludes.
