Marin Miletić, a Member of Parliament from Most, on Saturday, August 8, 2026, requested an urgent investigation and action from Interior Minister Davor Božinović regarding suspected illegal waste disposal on state land in the Udbina area. Miletić provided the Ministry of the Interior (MUP) with the exact location and photographs received from citizens, urging the police to promptly visit and, if necessary, secure the site to prevent further dumping or potential removal of evidence.
This concerns a plot in the Udbina cadastre that belongs to the state of Croatia. Miletić demands that authorities provide information on the type and quantity of waste, its origin, and who transported, stored, or discarded it. He places particular emphasis on verifying whether there is a risk to soil, groundwater, the environment, and public health, and whether the waste contains hazardous substances, including so-called "forever chemicals" or PFAS compounds.
Miletić directly links the Udbina case to earlier discoveries of illegal hazardous waste disposal at multiple locations in Lika, including Gospić, Benkovac, Lički Osik, and Štikada. He believes these events should not be viewed as isolated incidents but as a possible broader pattern of illegal waste management threatening the entire region.
"This is no longer an isolated local incident. The situation in Lika poses a serious threat to groundwater, soil, public health, and national security, with potential consequences for the areas of Lika, Gacka, and the Northern Littoral," Miletić stated in his request to Minister Božinović.
If contamination is suspected, Miletić also requests material sampling and the involvement of the State Inspectorate, the environmental protection inspection, the competent state attorney's office, civil protection, and local and regional self-government. Additionally, the police are asked to check for elements of a criminal offense or misdemeanor liability.
Given that the waste was found on state-owned land, the MP also raises the question of responsibility for the supervision and protection of state property. He has requested a written report from Minister Božinović on all measures taken, established facts, and future steps by the competent institutions.
